London to Brighton Bike Ride

I like bike riding. I like it so much in fact that I have decided to ride the 50 miles to Brighton on Sunday 15th June. In addition to the fun of it, I'm doing this ride to raise money for the British Heart Foundation and to this end would like to put it out there that people might like to contribute a few clams to this good cause.

I've set up a wee interweb site to help facilitate this giving of clams that can be accessed here:
http://www.justgiving.com/cdouglas

I'll see what I can do about getting some corporate sponsorship also with the intent that my employer match whatever you good people can contribute.

Hopefully I will build on this little venture and get all signed up for the London to Paris charity ride a few months later. More news on this when the future fog clears a little but for now thanks to everyone in advance for whatever you can contribute.

I have been doing stuff since my last post but most of it's been dull (and I've been lazy). I did however go to Barcelona last weekend which is blogworthy news. Turns out young Tangles had some work on down that way and inquired if I fancied a weekend down there to see the sites. It didn't take an awful lot to convince me that a long weekend in some decent weather might be a good plan. So, after initially booking the hotel for the wrong date, it was off to Spain for the first time.

Turns out I do look Spanish after all as everyone addressed me in Spanish, even after I responded that I didn't speak Spanish. It also worked out that a young Spanish lass I met in London a while ago was also going to be in Barcelona that weekend so it was wicked having a local to show us around.* This did result however in not much site seeing taking place but there was much eating, drinking and relaxing which turned out to be a pretty good way to spend the weekend. This also included a night out at a local night club full of hairy little Spaniards. The best part about this particular night was the the queue of boys lining up to try and chat up Tangles. Turns out blond hair and blue eyes are your ticket to a large ego in those parts.

Other than this we did drag our sorry arses to the Sagrada Família which was of course the church that
Antoni Gaudí built and designed (well, he built a bit of it before being hit by a tram and his plans for the rest were destroyed several years later but the bits he did build are awesome). I also managed to spend an afternoon at Park Güell.

You hear a lot about Gaudi in Barcelona and, in my opinion at least, it's well deserved. His designs really are fascinating and I'm surprised more modern architecture doesn't borrow from his work.

I've also included a few quotes from the weekend for future prosperity:

"Humble pie is a dish best severed cold."
"Don't you go pointing the pillow finger of envy at me!"
"You've really let the bees out of the sushi box now!"

Right, I've other news to tell and sponsorship money to request but I shall do that at a later date.
* A big shout out to Carolina and her various friends/relatives for showing us around.
